Philanthropy Caucus

The Philanthropy Caucus is a bipartisan effort by Congress. The Congressional Philanthropy Caucus in the House is co-chaired by Representative John Lewis (D-GA), chair of the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Oversight and Representative Patrick J. Tiberi (R-OH). The Senate counterpart, the Senate Philanthropy Caucus, is co-chaired by Senators Charles Schumer (D-NY) and Richard Burr (R-NC).

To date, there are 45 members in the House caucus and 10 in the Senate. (The Congressional Philanthropy Caucus was formed in July 2007; the Senate Philanthropy Caucus was established in July 2008.)

The caucus:

  • inform members of Congress and congressional staff about the important role that foundations play in our communities and around the world
  • identify issues of mutual interest to the philanthropic sector and lawmakers
  • raise awareness about legislative issues affecting foundations, such as the recent changes to donor-advised funds and supporting organizations
